The String Area of the College of Music is an integral part of one of the largest and most comprehensive music schools in the world. The College of Music is consistently rated one of the very best educational values in the United States. Our mission is to provide a dynamic, diverse, and comprehensive learning environment in which each student’s fullest musical potential may be achieved.

String Students in the College of Music study with world class performers, teachers, and recording artists. In addition to these tremendous experiences, students also have the opportunity to:

  • Receive important solo, chamber music, orchestral, early music, contemporary music, and jazz performance opportunities.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in the numerous well-paying professional performing ensembles in the Dallas-Ft. Worth region. Have the chance to study and practice teaching skills through many teaching fellowships and teaching assistantships available in the String Area and through the UNT String Project.

String students at UNT have won many major solo competitions, are regularly chosen to perform in the leading summer music festivals, and hold positions in top orchestras and teaching institutions throughout the world such as:

  • Principal cellist, Dallas Symphony Orchestra
  • Principal double bassist, Honolulu Symphony Orchestra
  • Associate concertmaster, National Symphony Orchestra
  • Assistant concertmaster, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
