Call for entries: 2018 Screenprint Biennial

2018 Screenprint Biennial
Deadline for email submissions: Friday, January 15, 2018 at 11:59PM EST

The 2018 Screenprint Biennial seeks to showcase a range of screenprint-based art applications, from framed editioned prints to installation, sculpture, video, ephemera, and posters. This exhibition will in no way seek to act as a survey or “who’s-who” of screenprinting, but will assemble an exhibition that is consistent in highlighting artists who utilize adventurous, relevant, and passionate takes on the screenprinted medium. The Screenprint Biennial is announcing its open call for submissions. Submissions involving video, performance, sculpture, social practice, alternative substrates and processes, and collaboration are encouraged.

The exhibition is scheduled to premiere at the Opalka Gallery in Albany, NY. Located at the Sage Colleges, the Opalka Gallery’s primary focus is on modern and contemporary art and design from nationally recognized artists.

JUROR: This is the first time The Contemporary Print will be accepting international artists and we are excited to have our first juror from the United Kingdom. Dr. Paul Laidler is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Fine Print Research (CFPR) and Senior Lecturer in BA Illustration / MA Multidisciplinary Printmaking, University of the West England, Bristol, United Kingdom. The main focus of Paul’s academic activities stems from the close relationships that exist between technology, ideas and making in the graphic arts – particularly in the area of digitally-mediated print and its many offshoots. He contributes to critical discourse in print as a curator and arts writer, and is an associate editor for the Intellect Journal ‘Drawing Research Theory and Practice’. His research explores the impact of digital technology within the field of fine art printmaking, focusing on the advantages of using the traditional collaborative print studio model when generating and realising physical artefacts in the digital age. Over the years Paul has worked on print projects for artists such as Richard Hamilton, Lesley Dill, Joe Tilson, Gordon Cheung and Stanley Donwood.

Registration Spring 2018 Printmaking Classes (updated)

...Not that kind of registration...

Are you thinking about registration for your Spring 2018 semester or beyond?
There are a few things you should know:

Spring 2018: Printmaking classes will be available by permission code to Printmaking Grads, Majors, and Pre-majors in the second week of October. The permission codes will go void November 6. At that point the classes will be open to all CVAD majors without permission codes.

Spring 2018: the History of Printmaking class has been postponed until Spring 2019 to coincide with the SGCI conference.  If you are planning to graduate before Spring 2019, and have not yet taken the class, then you may look for another 4000-level Art History class and get approval for a course substitution OR you may request from Dr. Kelly Donahue-Wallace a Special Problems in the History of Printmaking… A special problems class in art history is readings, papers, and individual discussions with the professor.

Summer 2018: Printmaking classes: There will be very few classes offered in Printmaking and Studio Art.  We do hope to offer a Summer 5 Week 2 class in Artist’s Books. This will be unrestricted registration (no permission codes).  It may fill very fast.  Students who have not yet passed BFA Entry Review should not take any printmaking classes in the summer.
