  • Yasur  |  Frequent explosions and thermal anomalies continue through October 2016
  • Villarrica  |  Lava lake reappears in February 2015 and is ongoing; large ash explosion on 3 March 2015
  • Ubinas  |  Ash plumes to 8 km during April-October 2015; activity ends in February 2016
  • Wolf  |  Explosion on 25 May 2015; lava flows down the E and SE flanks, and into the caldera

Site & Database News

16 December 2016 Database updated (4.5.3). Current eruptions updated through 14 December 2016. Removed additional volcanoes from the Holocene list and added more to the Pleistocene list.

9 November 2016 Database updated (4.5.2).

27 September 2016 Database updated (4.5.1). Current eruptions updated through 23 September 2016. Many corrections to volcanic feature locations. More than 2/3 of the geologic summary remarks have now been reviewed and edited in the past 3 years. Removed 19 volcanoes from the Holocene list and added 8 to the Pleistocene list since the June update.
Changed recent Bulletin reports area of home page to show 10 most recently published reports. Updated and restructured content under the Learn tab.

E3 Web Application

The "Eruptions, Earthquakes, & Emissions" web application (or "E3") is a time-lapse animation of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes since 1960. It also shows volcanic gas emissions (sulfur dioxide, SO2) since 1978 — the first year satellites were available to provide global monitoring of SO2. The eruption and gas emission data are drawn from the Volcanoes of the World database maintained by the Global Volcanism Program.
