Video Producer


Location: New York or Washington Salary Rate: Based on education and experience Type: Full Time Department: CFR Digital

The Council on Foreign Relations is looking for a video and storytelling professional to join our award-winning Digital team to conceptualize, create, and produce video segments, video series, and innovative rich media pieces for our websites and various distribution channels.

The candidate will have experience writing, producing, and designing web video explainers, documentaries, short form social videos, and motion graphics in both linear and interactive storytelling formats. Strong research, writing, design, and video editing experience is required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and produce video segments and series for various CFR outlets
  • Write interview questions, video scripts, and substantive outlines
  • Facilitate on-camera appearances and conduct interviews
  • Design and implement video stories with rich motion graphics
  • Manage day-to-day production schedule, track, and communicate deliverables to the Deputy Director, Multimedia
  • Work with in-house A/V professionals and external vendors
  • Research photo and footage needs, and work with vendors to negotiate licensing terms
  • Train colleagues on rich media storytelling, sound editing, and photo editing, and help manage podcast productions
  • Produce short video assets for media requests

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience as a video producer/journalist
  • Strong familiarity with international affairs and foreign news coverage
  • BA in journalism, international affairs or a related field; advanced degree a plus
  • Strong understanding and demonstration of a range of storytelling approaches
  • Experience conducting interviews and writing scripts for video
  • Experience working in a deadline-driven newsroom environment, sometimes outside of business hours
  • Must be able to synthesize complicated ideas/stories into understandable short form video

Human Resources Coordinator


Location: New York Salary Rate: Based on education and experience Type: Full Time Department: Human Resources

As an integral part of the Human Resources team, the Human Resources Coordinator will focus on the New York internship program, campus ambassador program, recruitment, and staff events in addition to other generalist duties. 

The primary responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to): 

  • Coordinating CFR’s internship program including recruitment, scheduling, and intern event planning for the fall, winter, and summer semesters, while always conceptualizing new programs, events, and materials for the internship program

Interdepartmental Program Assistant


Location: New York Salary Rate: Based on education and experience Type: Full Time Department: David Rockefeller Studies Program

The Interdepartmental Program Assistant is part of the Human Resources department, reports to the Associate Director, Human Resources, and is assigned to work Reception Services and in departments that request help with general duties and deadlines.  The position is an excellent introduction to the operations of the CFR and may lead to promotion, depending on availability of positions and job performance.

The principal responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform reception duties at Reception Services, including greeting and announcing visitors and answering CFR’s high volume switchboard
  • Checking in guests for meetings and assisting with events logistics
  • Substituting for a staff member who is out of the office, including handling event coordination, Microsoft office work, and possibly proofreading, editing, research and business writing

Product Manager

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is seeking a technology-focused Product Manager to report to the Director, Product Management and to join its Product Management group. The group manages CFR's website, www.cfr.org, along with the full lifecycle of new online products, including mobile apps, multimedia interactives, and e-learning initiatives.

The responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, editors, strategists and subject matter experts responsible for the delivery of innovative digital solutions that delight our customers, and align with CFR’s organizational priorities and mission.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape, conduct research, and anticipate trends to identify opportunities to formulate new products, or make improvements to existing offerings.
  • Communicate with product stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle, by leading review meetings, and garnering appropriate approvals at each leg of the project.

  • Skill in interpreting Web analytics and other metrics, in creating research-driven product plans, and marshalling data to define user needs.
  • Understanding of user-experience design across the Web, mobile, and social channels.
  • Able to speak and write clearly and fluently, maintaining proactive communication with stakeholders.
  • Experience with Scrum development methodologies; able to carry out Scrum's Product Owner role and to prioritize the product backlog.
  • Proficiency with Atlassian Jira, Redmine, or similar issue-trackers; familiarity with distributed version-control systems such as GitHub and with continuous deployment techniques.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; demonstrable commitment to continuing education in technology product management and user-experience design.
  • Proven interest in international relations a plus.

Production Design Associate

Taxonomist/Content Curator


Location: New York Salary Rate: Based on education and experience Type: Full Time Department: CFR Digital

CFR Digital is seeking a Content Strategist with familiarity with UX principles to contribute to the successful redesign and ongoing governance of the taxonomy for the CFR.org website. The content strategist will work closely with the chief digital officer, managing editor, and analytics manager to map out the website search strategy, and curate topics pages.  

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Developing  and governing the web taxonomy; building controlled vocabularies and thesauri; Providing guidance to staff in tagging and keywording of all CFR content;
  • Performing weekly reviews of published content to ensure best practices are being met;
  • Curating editorial topics and keyword portal pages;
  • Developing and providing institutional training to staff who tag content and assign keywords on the website;
  • Coordinating with other departments to determine optimal search needs and language, and insuring integration with other institutional systems.

Qualifications

The research associate will support the work of the Historian in Residence.

The principal responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing administrative support, including scheduling appointments, handling phone calls, drafting correspondence, travel arrangements, and responding to requests for information

Research Associate, U.S. Foreign Policy


Location: Washington Salary Rate: Based on education and experience Type: Full Time Department: David Rockefeller Studies Program

CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff.  The Studies Program aims to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

As part of the Studies Program, the research associate will support the work of the senior vice president, director of studies, and Maurice R. Greenberg chair. Qualified candidates will have related experience that required judgment, strong writing and editing ability, time management skills, and experience dealing with high-profile individuals. 

The principal responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with drafting, fact-checking, proofreading, and editing of written material, including director of studies’ talking points, blog posts, memos, and correspondence
  • Conducting research on specific areas as requested by the director of studies, for articles, speeches, and other publications
  • Assisting the director of studies with social media outreach, including publishing a blog, website, video, and/or using social media applications such as Twitter, Google+, etc.
  • Coordinating events, including preparing invitations, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support
  • Providing administrative support to the director of studies, including drafting correspondence and responding to requests for information

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of arts in international relations, history, or a related field, with high academic credentials and knowledge of current foreign policy issues
  • One or more year(s) related work experience
  • Experience with social media outreach and using social media applications preferred
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail
  • Proficiency in word processing, Excel, and database management
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team
