Hawaii Funding Opportunities

FY17 B-WET Hawaii Federal Funding Opportunity

Details: NOAA is now seeking proposals for the Bay-Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) Hawaii Program. The full FY17 Federal Funding Opportunity (FFO) can be found at Grants.gov under funding opportunity number NOAA-NOS-OCM-2017-2004984.  Full proposals must be submitted in Grants.gov by 5:59 pm Hawaii Time on November 4, 2016.

The B-WET Hawaii Program funds locally relevant, authentic experiential learning for K-12 audiences through Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs). MWEEs are multi‐stage activities that include learning both outdoors and in the classroom and aim to increase understanding and stewardship of Hawaii’s ecosystems.

Priorities for the B-WET Hawaii program include:

1)      Meaningful science-based outdoor experiences for students in the study of earth, ocean and climate sciences, community resilience to hazards, and/or associated with a NOAA identified focus area.

2)      Professional development for teachers in the area of environmental education, earth systems science, ocean science, climate sciences, community resilience to hazards, and/or associated with a NOAA identified focus area.

3)      Service learning and citizen science opportunities for students that promote stewardship activities such as interim camps and afterschool programs.

Eligible funding applicants are K-12 public and independent schools and school systems, institutions of higher education, for-profit and nonprofit organizations, and state or local government agencies conducting projects in Hawaii (Islands of Hawaii, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, Kahoolawe, Niihau, and/or the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands).

The B-WET Hawaii program is administered by the NOAA Office for Coastal Management Pacific Islands in partnership with the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries in Hawaii on behalf of the NOAA Office of Education.

More details about the B-WET program can be found at http://www.noaa.gov/office-education/bwet

Bringing the Environment into Classrooms in a Meaningful Way!

The NOAA California Bay Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) Program provides funds to support environment-based education throughout the watersheds of San Francisco Bay, Monterey Bay, and Santa Barbara Channel.

Funded projects provide "meaningful"(pdf) watershed educational experiences to students, teachers, and communities.

Recognizing that an educated community is the key to understanding and sustaining the Nation's ocean and coastal environments, NOAA has developed B-WET into a national program.
