Middle School Coach Information

2013 Middle School Science Bowl is full--registration is closed (10-16-2012) Regional team registration is only available online and opens October 1, 2012, 2:00 p.m. Central Time. ALL coaches (including returning coaches) must create a New Account at the beginning of each school year. (Returning coaches: you must use a uniquely different username each year.) Remember your username and password—you will need it each time you access the site. The online registration system is mandatory. Here are a few things to remember: Registration opens October 1, 2:00 p.m. Central Time.  Any coach or team information entered into the system prior to 2:00 on October 1 will be deleted.

• Plan ahead and gather the following information from each student prior to October 1:  first and last name, gender, grade and birthdate.  The system will also ask for an address, phone number, email, meal preference and social security number.  Use the guidelines below:
  
  • Address:  you may enter their home addresses or use the school's address
  • Student cell phone: gather that information if you wish; however, the registration system will accept any series of numbers (i.e. 555-555-5555)
  • Student email: again, the system will accept any type of data, so if you choose not to provide a student's email address, simply type: n/a
  • Student vegetarian: students choose their own meals from a food court setting (both at the Regional and National level), so collecting this information is optional
  • Social Security Number: the Iowa regional event does not require social security numbers from students or coaches; however, the team that advances to the National competition will be required to provide that information
    
• The online registration system allows you to save team information then go back into the system and make changes provided you don't hit the "submit" button. Enter the information you presently have and click on "Save for Future Editing." You can then log onto the site again, make necessary changes and "Submit" your information once it's finalized--but don't wait too long.  IMPORTANT NOTE: In order for teams to be considered for competition, the coach must click on the "submit" button.  The team roster is filled on a first-come first-served basis.  With a 16-team limit for this event, coaches will want to submit team information as quickly as possible.

If you get the "Agent Done" message, simply close your browser completely (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.), then open it and visit the site again.

Teacher Workshop - (to be determined)

Ames Laboratory has hosted teacher workshops in the past for coaches, assistant coaches, administrators, teachers and/or parent helpers of the 16 competing teams to provide assistance with the car assembly. As soon as the kits are received, we will assemble a prototype and determine if a teacher workshop is necessary.

Teams will receive two kits: a teacher kit (to use as a prototype), and a student kit for the team to assemble. Bob Mills and the rest of the Science Bowl staff are valuable resources for coaches throughout the car building and academic preparation process. Please direct your questions to our office.
