The NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office holds symposia to update the fisheries community on the progress of NOAA-supported research on Chesapeake Bay species and to disseminate findings of that research. The 2009 two-day symposium included presentations on American eel, cownose rays, horseshoe crabs, blue crabs (research, enhancement, and derelict fishing gear), and the disease mycobacteriosis among striped bass. It also included updates on the progress of fisheries monitoring and modeling, and fisheries visualization that show modeling data as a 3-D-type movie. The second day showcased the latest findings of the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office-sponsored menhaden research program, such as recruitment dynamics, winter feeding habits, and predator/prey interactions.
