R/V Jonboat is a Lowe Olympic Jonboat L1652MT aquired by the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office in 2009 in order to conduct habitat survey operations in very shallow waters. Its flat bottom, shallow draft, and easy road trailering make it an excellent platform for scouting and mapping otherwise inaccessible shoreline habitats. Minor modifications were made to mount hydrographic survey equipment such as side-scan sonar and single-beam acoustic classification systems.
