oSTEM's Statement

We are speaking out in solidarity with those fighting for the dismantling of white supremacy. As Pride Month and the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots near, we cannot forget that victories of freedom in the United States have been a direct result of movements of civil unrest led by Black people. We cannot stand as idle witnesses to the systemic racism, racial violence, and police brutality taking Black lives every day. We must demand justice and liberation for the Black community in the form of systematic change that values Black life and Black freedom. And we must work towards this change through the resistance of oppression, the protection of the most marginalized, and the redistribution of wealth to those in need. We must say Black Lives Matter. Stay strong. Stay safe.

oSTEM has reached our donation match goal of $2,500 USD to The Okra Project

The state of the world has changed very quickly in the last few weeks with the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently affecting us as global citizens. As the oSTEM community includes displaced members and affiliates from academic student chapters to international volunteers, it is important to us that we use this space to address your specific needs.

Academic and professional chapters are the foundation of oSTEM. Though community has often been defined by the value of in-person connections, we are committed to taking a stand against the public health risk caused by this pandemic.

In support of your health and safety, until further notice, we will cease all in-person oSTEM events and meetings and transition to a fully online community.

Calling all volunteers!

If you find yourself with extra time to support the LGBTQIA+ community and are looking for ways to improve our online presence, oSTEM is looking for volunteers interested in joining our global organization. Check out our volunteer opportunities page for more information!

In order to make the conference experience better for everyone, we have pushed registration back to September 14, 2020. We appreciate your patience as we work to make the experience as smooth as possible.

As in previous years you will need an oSTEM.org account to register for the conference so feel free to complete your profile at https://ostem.org/form/register/ or by clicking the "Join oSTEM" button above. If you already have an oSTEM.org account, you are all set and check back in on September 14!

We are excited to bring you a reimagined conference experience and to evoke the Magic of Tenacity!
It is with great care and concern for the safety of our members, attendees, volunteers and staff that we, with full support of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors at oSTEM and NOGLSTP, have decided to transition into a fully virtual conference for our 10th Annual oSTEM Conference + Out to Innovate™ 2020.  We are excited at this opportunity to reinvent our event and are working hard to bring you a fabulous virtual conference experience.

The state of the world has changed very quickly in the last few weeks with the COVID-19 pandemic that is currently affecting us as global citizens. As the oSTEM community includes displaced members and affiliates from academic student chapters to international volunteers, it is important to address the specific needs of our community.

Academic and professional chapters are the foundation of our global community. Community has often been defined by the value of in-person connections, but we understand that this pandemic is a public health risk threatening the connections forged in our community. Until further notice, we will cease all in-person oSTEM community events and meetings.

We recognize the need to prioritize the health and safety of our people while acknowledging the loss of community access due to social distancing. In the interim, it is our intention to optimize your oSTEM chapter experiences with support by transitioning to a fully online community.
