U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District added 3 new photos to the album: USACE Leaders Attend Southeast Natural Resources Leaders Group.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) leaders took time away from their busy schedules to attend a Southeast Natural Resources Leaders Group Principals Meeting J...an. 18-19 in Atlanta, Ga. with leaders from other federal and state agencies. During the meeting the leaders discussed improving interagency partnerships and surveyed the Proctor Creek Watershed as an example.

Some of the leaders in attendance for USACE included South Atlantic Division Commander Brig. Gen. C. David Turner, Mobile District Commander Col. James DeLapp, Mobile District Chief of Plan Formulation Todd Boatman, and Savanah District Hydraulic Engineer Robert "Vince" Moody. Halfway home in Pascagoula

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District added 8 new photos to the album: Round Island Project Nears Midway Point.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District project at the Round Island Coastal Preserve in Pascagoula is nearing the midway point.

District engin...eers from the Irvington Office, in conjunction with local contractors, have been working diligently on the project for more than a month dredging the Pascagoula Channel to authorized depth and placing beneficial use material on a berm adjacent to Round Island.
The projected is expected to be finished sometime after the New Year.

In order to keep Charleston Harbor at the authorized depth of 45 feet, we have to have somewhere to put the material we dredge up. That's why we have the Cloute...r Creek Disposal Area. You'll see it as you drive over 526 and look down. It's the big mud pit. This big mud pit goes through a lot of life cycles as we continually pump more material into it, but this ugly thing is critical to the ability to keep our harbor maintained.
