Clouter Creek Disposal Area has a critical role in Charleston's deepening.

In order to keep Charleston Harbor at the authorized depth of 45 feet, we have to have somewhere to put the material we dredge up. That's why we have the Clouter Creek Disposal Area. You'll see it as you drive over 526 and look down. It's the big mud pit. This big mud pit goes through a lot of life cycles as we continually pump more material into it, but this ugly thing is critical to the ability to keep our harbor maintained.
