The Sonora Fire Department continues to require burn permit within the City of Sonora.  Air District Burn Permits are required for any burning in which the vegetation being burned exceeds two acres on an annual basis.  Burn permits are also required for commercial or industrial businesses.

   Only clean and dry vegetation is allowed to be burned.  Burning non vegetation, wet vegetation, burning in a burn barrel, and burning on a no-burn day are violations of Air District rules.  Please be advised that burning wet leaves or wet pine needles is prohibited. 

If smoke from your fire is creating a nuisance to your neighbors, you are required to put the fire out.  Please consider alternatives to burning such as chipping, recycling, or composting.
