Welcome to Bureau of the State House

State House and McCormack
It is the mission and responsibility of the Bureau of the State House to work with the Executive Office, the Massachusetts Legislature, state agencies and the Massachusetts Historical Commission in preserving, maintaining and restoring the Massachusetts state capitol. We strive to efficiently provide a safe, accessible, clean and secure seat of government, place of business, museum of art and history as well as a site for public congregation.

State House Events

If you are interested in scheduling an event in the public space of the Massachusetts State House you have come to the right place. This section will introduce you to our Events Department and how to go about scheduling an event or art exhibit.

State House Operations

State House Operations oversees the operation of the State House: monitors performance of and manages private contractors for cleaning, mechanical maintenance, grounds, pest control and life safety systems; and sanctions, organizes and supervises all State House events and functions, working closely with personnel in the Legislative and Executive Branches. The office of the Director of State House Operations is located in Room 115 of the State House.

In order to do this job effectively the person designated as the ADA/504 Coordinator must have knowledge of state and federal disability laws.

Art Commission

The Mission of the Art Commission is to preserve, restore, and interpret the Massachusetts State House Art Collection, review and approve plans for new acquisitions, and foster appreciation for the people and organizations that have made lasting contributions to the Commonwealth and Nation.

Safety and Security

The security of the Massachusetts State House is the responsibility of the Department of Conservation and Recreation.  The Bureau of the State House is responsible for the maintenance/repair of the State House security equipment and maintains a strict key control system.
