A World in Our Backyard: A Wetlands Educational and Stewardship Program.
Madison, Stafford; Paly, Melissa
This guide aims to help students get to know the complexities of wetlands, discover wildlife, enjoy the experience of being outdoors, and learn how necessary wetlands are to the health of our environment. Both the guide and the accompanying videotape are resources of information about wetlands in New England. Eight main topics are treated: wetland science, wetland types, wetland functions, threats to wetlands, finding a wetland to study, adopting a wetland, wetland field study procedures, and protecting wetlands. Each topic is accompanied by student activities and the background information required for a thorough understanding of the topic. Some topics are accompanied by sections that discuss student-based research and procedures to initiate social action. Included in the appendix are a wetland education directory and lists of wetland education resources and wetlands curricula. Contains 31 references. (DDR)
