EERE will fund the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center at Oregon State University to design, permit, and construct an open-water wave energy testing facility in Newport, Oregon. The facility will help develop technologies capable of harnessing wave resources along U.S. coastlines.
The Industrial Assessment Centers program funds 28 colleges and universities from 25 states to help small manufacturers improve productivity, reduce waste, and lower energy costs while training engineering students in manufacturing processes, energy assessment procedures, and energy management systems.
The Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment Institute will develop technologies to boost domestic energy productivity through manufacturing processes in industries such as chemicals, oil and gas, and paper-making.
The U.S. Department of Energy launched season two of “Better Buildings Challenge SWAP,” featuring the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Air Force Academy. The teams learn from each other that they can apply simple behavioral changes to help students and faculty be more mindful about lighting usage and plug loads in classrooms when not in use.
