The Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS) Cultural Resource Program addresses federal agency compliance with cultural resource management laws at 14 dams and reservoirs in the Columbia River Basin. The program is jointly administered by Bonneville Power Administration, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in close coordination with other Federal and state agencies, and Native American tribes across the region. Program activities include identifying and evaluating archaeological, historic, and traditional Native American sites, and mitigating the impacts of dam and reservoir operations on these sites. Program activities are carried out in close coordination with eight Cultural Resource Cooperating Groups. Membership in these groups differs for each dam and reservoir, and is based on contemporary land ownership, and tribal ancestral lands or ceded territories.

Program Participants

Program participants include 10 federally recognized Native American tribes; the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana State Historic Preservation Offices, the National Park Service; the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area; the Bureau of Indian Affairs; and the Kootenai, Flathead, and Idaho Panhandle National Forests.
