Graduate Reserve Carrels

Graduate Reserves is the term given to the carrels available for assignment to UNT graduate students and faculty. Graduate Reserves are available in Willis Library.

Who May Use Graduate Reserve Carrels?

  • Students working on theses, dissertations, or projects of similar magnitude will receive first consideration for assignment of carrels.
  • Only faculty members and doctoral students will be eligible for the waiting list for locked carrels.

Assignment of Graduate Reserve Carrels

  • Graduate carrel assignments for Lower Level in the Willis Library will be assigned by an employee at the Library Services Desk, 1st Floor.
  • The Music Library Service Desk will assign those carrels located on the 4th Floor. Carrels will be assigned only if seating availability permits.
  • Carrel reservations are limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Placement of Materials on Graduate Reserve Carrels

  • Circulating books and documents may be added to Graduate Reserves.
  • Periodicals, non-circulating books, non-book material and reserve books may not be charged to Graduate Reserves.
  • Requests for Faculty/Library Reserves take precedence over charges to Graduate Reserves.

Borrowing Materials Located on Graduate Reserve Carrels

  • Only the individual who placed the material on Graduate Reserves may remove books from the carrel for regular check-out.
  • Materials from Graduate Reserves may be checked out by anyone with a valid ID card for 3 days.
  • Reserve loan rules will apply to this category of loan.

Renewal and Fees for Graduate Reserve Carrels/Keys

  • Locked carrels must be renewed every semester by the last day of finals or the carrel will be forfeited and given to the next person on the waiting list.
  • Reserve fine rates and book replacement charges apply to carrel keys that are not renewed and/or lost.
