YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) – Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet (C7F) and Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Japan (CNFJ) have removed the temporary alcohol restriction put in place June 6 for all Sailors in Japan.
“Over the past few weeks, the performance of Sailors across Japan has been outstanding,” said Rear Adm. Matthew Carter, CNFJ. “They recognize that liberty is a mission, especially here in Japan. They know that their performance in this mission area has a direct impact in preserving the vital strategic relationship with the Japanese, and preserving peace and stability in the Western Pacific.”
Effective immediately, Sailors are permitted to consume alcohol at off-base establishments until 2200. Liberty buddies are required for all personnel E-5 and below who consume alcohol, either on or off base. Navy civilian employees, contractors and family members are asked to show solidarity with the uniformed component and refrain from consuming alcohol after 2200 at this time.
Since June 6, every Sailor in Japan has received face-to-face liberty remediation from commanding officers, executive officers and command master chiefs, and commands have conducted training on responsible use of alcohol. The Sailors of Seventh Fleet and Naval Forces Japan have responded positively.
“I’m encouraged that our Sailors have embraced the remediation training, and understand the role they play in the alliance with Japan” said Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, C7F. “We’re on a good start, a good trend, and I want this to continue.”
