Fishing

Marine Corps Base, Quantico, offers anglers the opportunity to pursue a variety of sport fish, including largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish within three large impoundments and several ponds ranging from 5-16 acres. Brook trout are stocked in the spring for put and take and youth fishing events. The Potomac River and Quantico and Chopawamsic Creeks provide access to tidal freshwater fishing for largemouth bass and migratory fish such as striped bass and herring. Locations of all lakes, ponds, and designated trout waters can be found on the MCBQ fishing map. Most of our smaller lakes and ponds are non-gasoline engine only. Gasoline motors are allowed in tidal creeks. However, Lunga Reservoir remains closed. Please consult the MCBQ fishing regulations.
	To fish aboard MCBQ anglers must purchase all necessary state licenses, as well as, a base fishing license. An annual MCBQ fishing license costs $10 and a 5-day trip license cost $2. MCBQ fishing licenses can be purchased at the Game Checking Station and at the Marine Corps Exchange sporting goods desk. Again, please be sure to familiarize yourself with the MCBQ fishing regulations.
2016 TROUT NEWS The Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Branch will be stocking trout from mid-March to early May in Chopawamsic Creek, weather permitting. The first stocking will occur off of Breckinridge Road from Gray’s Reservoir to Breckinridge Dam. Licensed anglers will be able to fish the designated trout waters per Base and Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries regulations. Trout waters, including SECON Pool, on Middle Branch, Chopawamsic Creek, will be closed until 2 April due to Blackrock Road closure.
TROUT HERITAGE DAY, APRIL 2. Trout waters will be closed on 1 April to be stocked for the Trout Heritage Day. Trout waters will re-open for fishing on 2 April, including the youth area, SECON Pool. Families are invited to bring their kids, 12 years old and younger, to SECON Pool on 2 April to participate in this youth fishing event. NREA Branch will have some fishing tackle on-hand for kids who do not have rod and reel.
