BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- State agencies, local governments and certain private nonprofits in Anoka and Hennepin counties have just a few days remaining to file their official requests for federal public assistance to help recover from severe storms and tornadoes on May 21-22, 2011. The deadline to file a Request for Public Assistance (RPA) is Wednesday, July 6. Filing such a request with the State is the first step in the process of applying for federal reimbursements under the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program.
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Officials from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have announced that State disaster officials will hold Public Assistance applicant briefings for Anoka and Hennepin counties on Thursday, June 16. The briefings will be held to help representatives from state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations apply for federal disaster assistance to support recovery from severe storms and tornadoes May 21-22, 2011.

Public Assistance DefinitionsPublic Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
