Service members from Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, and Allied Joint Forces Command Naples, flew to Cannes, France, Nov. 4, to join international service members to participate in a commemoration ceremony at Cannes City Hall.
CANNES, France (Nov. 4, 2011) –President Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy look over French and U.S. service members during a commemoration ceremony held at Cannes City Hall. During the ceremony, Obama and Sarkozy honored the French and U.S. service members who participated in Operations Odyssey Dawn and Unified Protector, supporting the international response to the unrest in Libya and the enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973.
NORMANDY AMERICAN CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL, France - U.S. President Barack Obama, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Prince Charles of Wales, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Gordon Brown and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke here today at a ceremony honoring the servicemembers who fought and died during the allied invasion of Normandy 65 years ago.
