Ninety seven participants from 47 countries covering three combatant commands – U.S. Africa, Central and European Command – are working over nine days to better define what’s happening in countries like Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Syria and other nations. Speakers include academics, military leaders and others involved with the change process in those nations.

CANNES, France (Nov. 4, 2011) –President Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy look over French and U.S. service members during a commemoration ceremony held at Cannes City Hall. During the ceremony, Obama and Sarkozy honored the French and U.S. service members who participated in Operations Odyssey Dawn and Unified Protector, supporting the international response to the unrest in Libya and the enforcement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973.

AUGUSTA BAY, Sicily (Oct. 22, 2011) - Rear Adm. James Foggo, deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, (right center) reviews navigation charts on the bridge aboard the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19). Foggo visited the ship to thank the crew for their work during Operation Unified Protector, the NATO led operation enforcing United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973 in order to protect Libyan civilians. Mesa Verde is a part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, which relieved the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group on April 27, 2011, in support of Operation Odyssey Dawn, later becoming Operation Unified Protector. Mesa Verde deployed from her homeport of Norfolk, Va., March 23, and is currently conducting operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
