Air University Academic Affairs

Dr. Matthew C. Stafford is the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. In this position, Dr. Stafford is the principal architect of the resident and nonresident (distributed learning) components of the continuum of education. The Vice President provides oversight of curriculum integration throughout the continuum and is the office of primary responsibility for the continuum 's strategic guidance and assessment of compliance. He advises the Air University commander and president on the review and selection of all key faculty members. Dr. Stafford also provides overarching guidance and the educational leadership to achieve its high standard of excellence and innovation in educating aerospace leaders and meeting regional accreditation criteria. In addition, he is the focal point for coordinating requests for changes to curricula originating outside Air University.

The Academic Affairs Office consists of the following primary subdivisions:

  • Coordinates with The Air University's Board of Visitors (BOV)
  • Provides oversight for the Miur S. Fairchild Research Information Center (MSFRIC)
  • Advises the Commander and President regarding Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation issues
  • Through its Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs it provides oversight of curriculum integration throughout the continuum and is the office of primary responsibility for continuum's strategic guidance and assessment of compliance
  • Interacts directly with students for admissions and support requests through the University's Office of the Registrar
