Emergency Contact Online Transaction

WHO ARE YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACTS?
On Tuesday, June 21, 2011,SCDMV announced a new online transaction that allows customers with a driver’s license, beginner’s permit or identification card to enter emergency contact information for their SCDMV record. In the event of a collision or other medical emergency, law enforcement will have access to this information and may provide it to emergency medical personnel. For more information, click here.

Wednesday Morning Training Sessions
|
|
All SCDMV offices close on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for in-house training. All field offices, telephone service centers and headquarters employees participate. These training sessions allow management more time to work with employees to ensure consistent operations throughout the agency.

New Commercial Driver Requirements

New regulations now require all commercial drivers to self-certify the type of commerce for which they intend to operate. Drivers must also provide medical certification for any type of commerce that requires it. For more information, click here.

Use Our Public Services Site
|

The SCDMV Public Services site lets you complete many transactions online:
- Address changes
- Replace a lost or stolen driver's license
- Identification card renewals
- View your driver license status, and pay reinstatement fees
- Duplicate registration certificates
- Complete a pending registration renewal
- Obtain your driver record
The Public Services site is usually the fastest and most convenient way to do business with SCDMV.

Reduction of Threat Assessment Fee
As of March19, 2012, the threat assessment fee to obtain or renew a hazardous material endorsement on a Commercial Driver’s License has changed. The cost of transmitting fingerprints and conducting a background check on applicants is reduced from $78.25 to $75.50.
Driver Manual Sales
As of July 1, 2011 SCDMV charges a fee for South Carolina driver manuals and commercial driver license (CDL) manuals. The manuals are sold for $5.00 each plus sales tax. For more information, click here.
Payment Plan Program
SCDMV offers a driver’s license reinstatement fee payment program for SC residents that have a suspended driver’s license. For more information, click here.
Puerto Rico Birth Certificates
Due to the high incidence of passport fraud using Puerto Rico birth certificates, the government of Puerto Rico is issuing new birth certificates beginning July 1, 2010, which will incorporate new technology to limit forgery. As of October 1, 2010, SCDMV no longer accepts Puerto Rico birth certificates unless the birth certificate has an issue date of July 1, 2010, or later. The Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration has posted guidance, including frequently asked questions and answers and instructions on how to apply for a new Puerto Rico birth certificate, on their website at www.prfaa.com.
