Project Description

TxDOT is planning managed lane improvements for State Highway (SH) 183 from SH 121 to IH 35E, as well as portions of Loop 12 and SH 114.

This project will be developed under a Comprehensive Development Agreement (CDA), which provides innovative methods for development and finance. The SH 183 Managed Lanes Project is crucial to responding to traffic congestion throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

The Study Corridor

The project includes SH 183 from SH 121 to I-35E as well as portions of Loop 12 and SH 114.

Purpose and Need

The SH 183 corridor, located in the western portion of Dallas County and the eastern portion of Tarrant County, is one of the most highly congested roadways in the region. It has retained its basic configuration since the mid-1970s.

Although adjacent development has increased, the roadway's capacity has remained largely unchanged. The highways that connect to the SH 183 corridor are also congested and are expected to increase in congestion if no improvements are made.
