Grants

PHMSA provides grant opportunities designed to improve damage prevention, develop new technologies, and improve pipeline safety. These comprehensive programs include: Technical Assistance Grants (TAG), State Pipeline Safety Base Grants, One Call, Research and Development, Competitive Academic Agreement Program (CAAP), and State Damage Prevention. Further, the PHMSA pipeline safety grant programs has helped to foster partnerships with local communities, and universities to promote pipeline awareness campaigns, development of pipeline resources and information, and the implementation of best practices regarding pipeline safety nationwide.

Technical Assistance Grants (TAG) Provides funding to communities for technical assistance (engineering or other scientific) and analyses of local pipeline safety issues Communities and Groups of Individuals Grant may not exceed $100,000 for a single recipient and the funds authorized for these grants
 
Pipeline Safety Base Grants Provides support up to 80 percent of the cost of personnel, equipment and activities reasonably required to carry out inspection and enforcement activities of intrastate pipeline facilities and activities specifically for the inspection of natural gas or hazardous liquid pipeline facilities State agencies (must participate in the pipeline safety program) Award Funding Varies (To view past projects, click here)
One Call Grants Provide funding to state agencies in promoting damage prevention, including changes with their state underground damage prevention laws, related compliance activities, training and public education State agencies (must participate in the pipeline safety program) Maximum request amount of $45,000 per state

State Damage Prevention Grants Provides funding to states that do not have comprehensive damage prevention programs designed to prevent damage to underground pipelines Any state authority (or municipality with respect to intrastate gas transportation) that is or will be responsible for preventing damage to underground pipeline facilities Award Funding Varies
