Maritime Emergency Preparedness and Response

“In Peace and War”

The Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Office of Emergency Preparedness develops and maintains plans for civil maritime transportation support to military mobilizations and response to national emergencies. The office also maintains emergency resource evaluation data; helps formulate international and national plans for maritime emergency and mobilization activities; operates the Maritime Administration’s telecommunications center and supports the DOT Crisis Management Center.

MARAD’s role in Emergency Preparedness and Response has grown too, due to the repeatedly demonstrated usefulness of Ready Reserve Force vessels during national and international emergencies.
