​ Graduate Medical Education (gme)

For over 60 years, Naval Medical Center San Diego's Graduate Medical Education (NMCSD-GME) Directorate has been preparing physicians with the knowledge, skills and expertise necessary to provide outstanding care to its patients. From the beginning, the GME program and the dedicated staff of NMCSD have successfully assisted thousands of physicians complete their internships, residencies and fellowships to become some of the finest military and civilian doctors in their specialties.

The GME's mission and focus are to develop the clinical and professional skills of interns, residents and fellows through education, mentorship, operational and humanitarian efforts and clinical skills. NMCSD has 24 accredited programs in a wide variety of specialties that deliver quality health services to a large and diverse patient population.

NMCSD is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Additionally, each program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for General Medical Education (ACGME). Our Dental program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), the Psychology program has full accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Pharmacy Program is fully accredited by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ASHP).
