AMERICAN REVOLUTION: DON’T TREAD ON ME *ALSO AVAILABLE AS OUTREACH

Step into the lives of American Patriots as they wage the battle for freedom. This “come as you are war” was fought by men and women, wealthy and poor, farmers and merchants. From the simplest solider to the grandest officer, students will meet the individuals who enabled the birth of our nation. These personal stories, along with an examination of artifacts and period clothing, will provide students a hands on experience with Colonial America.

7TH GRADE
WWII: D-DAY PROGRAM *ALSO AVAILABLE AS OUTREACH

The purpose of this lesson is to have students recognize the different types of Americans who participated in D-Day and the liberation of both Europe and the Pacific. They will meet a WOW (Woman Ordnance Worker), a GI Joe, and a WAC (Women’s Army Corps). Students will analyze artifacts to identify their importance to the lives American soldiers and they will be introduced to archives that tell personal stories. Students will identify how the women and others shaped not only the outcome of World War II but also the future of our nation.

8TH GRADE
A GREAT DEBATE – THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN WWII *ALSO AVAILABLE AS OUTREACH

In 1942, after 14 years of debate and the bombing of Pearl Harbor, American women were finally invited to join the ranks of the uniformed Army. The passage of H.R. 6293, proposed by the Honorable Edith Nourse Rodgers of Massachusetts, marked a turning point in the history of the nation. By analyzing primary source documents, your students will hear the voices, feel the emotions, and examine the human dimensions of this massive societal change. They will step into the debate fully understanding how this public policy was affected by historical events, individuals, and the media.
