Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP)

Quick Reference Guide

  • Mission: Prevent and treat substance abuse disorders by providing education, outpatient counseling or inpatient referral for soldiers. Provide consultation resource for unit commanders. Liaison with local military and civilian substance abuse resources .
  • Scope of Practice: Evaluate soldiers referred for diagnostic assessment. Discuss evaluation results and treatment plans with unit commanders. Provide soldiers with an education program, a rehabilitation course, and/or Track I, II or III follow-up care services. Refer or encourage soldiers to participate in local AA and NA programs, medical evaluations, mental health services, social work services or other medical and community resources as deemed appropriate or necessary.
