REF, JPMG & JPdM-FPS Install Joint Defense Operations Center in Africa

the U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force, Joint Project Manager Guardian and Joint Product Manager, Force Protection Systems completed the installation of a Joint Defense Operations Center in the Horn of Africa. Six days after installation, the unit reported that the technology significantly enhanced the base force protection.



REF Powers Mission Critical Support Systems at Bagram Airfield

Potential new way of producing water now comes in box form

U.S. Army Pacific Soldiers participated in a weeklong field-testing and train-the-trainer exercise using the Aspen 2000 water purification system combined with a water packaging trailer on Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, Feb. 9-18. The packaging system uses the Aspen 2000 water purification system and combines with self-packaging water trailer to create a system known as Water in a Box.

Rapid Equipping Force Moves Under TRADOC

The Army's Rapid Equipping Force, or REF, created in 2002 to more quickly meet the materiel needs of commanders operating in Afghanistan, was officially transferred, Jan. 30, to the Army Training and Doctrine Command, also known as TRADOC.



Kurt Frulla Named Deputy Director of U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force

The U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force announced that Mr. Kurt Frulla will begin as its new Deputy Director on July 28, 2014. Frulla comes to the job with considerable acquisition experience, most recently as the Chief of Staff at Program Executive Office Soldier.

The U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force reviewed more than 120 soldier challenge ideas and 10 detailed designs to select the Army CoCreate Make-a-Thon project, a new Lightweight Tactical All Terrain Vehicle to provide enhanced Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capability, or C4ISR, as it is commonly referred to in the military.



A New Wave of Aerostats for the Tactical Edge

The U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force completed an aerostat demonstration Nov. 6-7, at Fort Dix, N.J. to characterize the performance of three emerging tethered balloon systems. Aerostats often serve as aerial platforms to provide Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance as well as other capabilities to forward-deployed units.



U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force Launches Website to Support Soldier Innovation

The U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force (REF) announced Friday the launch of ArmyCoCreate.com, an online platform to connect Soldiers, civilians, enthusiasts and scientists in the real-time development of Army solutions. Community members will collaborate to identify Soldier problems, suggest solutions, tackle an in-depth challenge and build prototypes.



Colonel Steven A. Sliwa to Lead an Evolving Rapid Equipping Force

Colonel Steven Sliwa assumed directorship of the Army’s Rapid Equipping Force (REF) in Fort Belvoir, Virginia this week. “I am thrilled and honored to have been selected for the position of REF Director,” said Sliwa. “The REF is an extremely unique and capable organization that has proven its utility to the warfighter time and time again.”


Enhancing Situational Awareness on the Tactical Edge

The U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force (REF) completed the Counter Rocket Shooter System with Highly Accurate Immediate Response System (CROSSHAIRS) Enhanced Net Modernization Exercise last week to evaluate operational readiness and reduce risk before the system goes to theater and to the Network Integration Exercise (NIE) in the fall.
