What is the difference between a Placement Officer and a Detailer?

Many people think that everyone working at NPC is a Detailer which is not the case.  Some here fulfill the duties of a Placement Officer.  So what is the difference? Placement Officer concerns center around the needs of the command and not the needs/desires/career progression of the service member.  Detailers concern themselves with the needs/desires/career progression of the service member and not with those of the command.  In short, Placement owns billets and Detailers own bodies.  Of course, there will be some obvious and necessary blurring of the above absolutes in the desire of all involved to provide the Fleet with the right person in the right place at the right time.

So who should you contact in an effort to discuss follow-on orders?  Placement Officers can provide knowledge and background information on open billets. Ultimately it is your detailer you must negotiate your next set of orders with.

If you are a Restricted Line or Staff Corps officer, your Detailers homepage can be found via the links in the left hand navigation bar.
