This program is a 4-year combination work/study program at the Fleet Readiness Center, Southwest (FRCSW) in Coronado, CA
The apprentice positions have promotion potential to the WG-10 Level. You may be noncompetitively promoted to the full performance level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. You will spend up to 4 yrs. as an entry level tradesperson. After successfully completing all required training and experience, you will progress to the journey level. Continued employment and advancement requires satisfactory completion of classroom training and work experience. College level classroom training may include, but will not be limited to, trade skills and trade related mathematics (e.g. algebra, geometry, trigonometry), introductory sciences (e.g. metallurgy, electrical theory), and trade drawings and blueprints. You may be promoted after meeting all requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. You are required to receive 1,800 hrs. of on-the-job training yearly under the supervision of a journey level tradesperson. FRC-SW will make advance payment directly to the approved academic training program for the following: educational costs, tuition, materials required for lab classes, health fees and any other authorized costs. Additional expenses incurred for school (parking permits/tickets, books, transportation expenses to and from school, etc.) will be the responsibility of the Apprentice. You will be required to sign an agreement to work within the Department of Navy for 2 yrs. after completion of the program.

Aircraft Electrician (2892)
Repair, overhaul, modify, test and assemble aircraft electrical components, repair or modify units by replacing wires, plugs, connectors, soldering wires or other aircraft components, assist with installation, calibration and testing of complex electrical systems and devices on military aircraft.
Aircraft Launching and Arresting Devices (ALAD) Mechanic (5301)
Repair, overhaul, modify, install and align a variety of equipment and component parts associated with naval aircraft carrier launching and recovery systems.
Set up/operate special and universal machines and their accessories to perform machining tasks to aircraft components and structures.
Sheet Metal Mechanic (3806)
Cut and remove damaged areas of aircraft, parts and assemblies, perform standard structural repairs and modifications to aircraft and their component parts and assemblies, fabricate and install patches to repair aircraft parts and components.
Electronics Mechanic (2604)
Disassemble and assemble electronics equipment, install, test, modify, overhaul, and repair electronic assemblies and sub-assemblies, assist in troubleshooting to component level.
Aircraft Mechanic (8852)
Perform servicing of aircraft engines, tires, fuel, oil, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, disassemble aircraft and helicopters for repair, assist Aircraft Mechanics in the operation and functional checkout of rotary and fixed wing aircraft systems, check components to locate worn, dirty or poorly adjusted parts and accessories.
Composite Fabricator (4352)
Disassemble fastened and bonded surfaces according to prescribed composite technique, make structural airframe repairs and install them by means of fasteners and/or bonded composite materials, Fabricate and make structural repairs to metal and laminated type structures by bolted or bonded constructions.
Electrician (2805)
Maintain, modify, troubleshoot and repair power and lighting circuits, lighting fixtures, switches, machinery control equipment, allied accessories, Test and repair electrical equipment and appliances, perform preventive maintenance on all electrical machinery and equipment
Welder (3703)
Perform all welding duties necessary to make repairs and/or modifications to aircraft, aircraft engine and support equipment, lay out work from blueprints, specifications and oral instructions.
Marine Machinery Mechanic (5334)
Install, align, and repair main propulsion machinery, auxiliary engines, and hydraulic controls of ships assigned for construction, overhaul, and repair, Operate various trade tools to perform repairs and test accuracy of equipment and machines, Reassemble and install equipment, connect power sources, and test and operate machinery to ensure proper operation of the entire system. |
