Prevention
Culture of Dignity and Respect
Prevention is much more than an hour of training, an awareness campaign, or an inspiring poster. DoD’s prevention approach engages leaders at all levels and requires a personal commitment from every Service member to uphold military core values.
DoD is committed to eliminating sexual assault and fostering a culture of dignity and respect for every Service member. The desired end state is an atmosphere where cultural imperatives of mutual respect and trust, professional values, and team commitment are reinforced to create an environment where sexual assault is not tolerated, condoned, or ignored.
Note: The 2017-2021 Prevention Plan of Action is currently under development by SAPRO which will update the strategic approach to prevent sexual assault with new metrics and the inclusion of risk and protective factors to prevent this crime and ensure an environment where every DoD Member receives the dignity and respect they deserve. To illustrate the approach, DoD developed the 2017-2021 Plan of Action Model which depicts the expansion of the socio-ecological model with additional echelons that have specific roles and actions for sexual assault prevention.
