Prevention Program Elements - Incentives

DoD SAPRO works with the military Services to identify innovative sexual assault prevention and response initiatives for Department recognition. DoD supports the Services as they annually determine the Sexual Assault Prevention Innovation Award and the Exceptional Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) Award winners. These awards recognize the dedicated individuals responsible for responding to the needs of victims and leading command prevention efforts (Exceptional SARC), and those working to prevent the challenging crime of sexual assault through innovative practices (Prevention Innovation).

Annual Prevention Innovation Recognition

To support the Services in their Prevention efforts, DoD has initiated the Sexual Assault Prevention Innovation Award which annually recognizes a group or an individual (military or civilian) from each military service/component who contributed or developed an innovative idea, concept, methodology, or approach to positively impact the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Programs either on an installation, deployed environment, or in a reserve component.

This award recognizes individuals or groups whose work has been particularly noteworthy and demonstrates outstanding service in support of Service members Awardees from each of the six military components are recognized each October.

The initiatives selected each year will be published for Commanders to utilize as the military continues its mission to reduce, with the goal to eliminate, sexual assault in the military.

Annual Exceptional SARC Recognition

The Department of Defense (DoD) annually recognizes individuals (military or civilian) from each military service and their respective reserve component, who are selected as the Exceptional Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) either on an installation, deployed environment, or in a reserve component. This program recognizes individuals whose work has been particularly noteworthy, and demonstrates outstanding service in support of Service members. Recognition is annually completed in conjunction with outreach programs within each of the six military components each April during Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM).
