DENTON – Having a breakout sophomore campaign in numerous categories, Jeremy Combs was selected second team All-Conference USA by the league’s coaches and media on Monday.

Combs leads North Texas (12-19, 7-11 C-USA) in scoring (15.4), rebounds (10.8), steals (42), free throws (111), field goals (175), field goal percentage (60.1) and double-doubles (14). The Dallas native had seven 20-point scoring games and 16 double-digit rebounding games this season.

“We are really happy for Jeremy and his accomplishments this season,” North Texas head coach Tony Benford said. “First off, he is a tremendous person with a great work ethic and he really improved his game from last year averaging a double-double. The impact he has had on our program being a great ambassador for the University of North Texas is something we look for in every student-athlete."

This is the second all-conference award for Combs after landing on the C-USA all-freshman team last season. It is the first second team honoree for the Mean Green since Tony Mitchell in 2012-13 (Sun Belt Conference).

Combs has pulled down a career-high 324 total rebounds which is the sixth best total in single-season history at North Texas. The second leading rebounder in the C-USA, Combs also at one point was ranked in the top-25 in six different categories in the nation. Currently, Combs is 15th in total rebounds (324) and 14th in rebounds per game (10.8).

His best game of the season came in a home game against Marshall scoring a career-high 28 points (12 of 19 from the field) and grabbed 18 rebounds. Combs passed former NBA standout Kenyon Martin’s C-USA rebounding record in C-USA games only with 18 rebounds at LA Tech. Combs finished with 206 rebounds in 17 C-USA games.

The Mean Green will open the 2016 C-USA Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. as the No. 9 seed and will take on No. 8 Western Kentucky on Wednesday at noon. The matchup can be seen on the American Sports Network.
