The Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences (BAAS) is a unique degree program by which students build on a multidisciplinary foundation to support career flexibility. May be of particular interest to: students transferring from community college; veterans eligible for credit for specialized military training; students from technical institutions with occupationally-specific credits; and, non-traditional students who want to complete a previously interrupted degree. The only such program in Texas, and among only a few in the nation, this highly applied degree allows students hands-on opportunities to provide interventions that help children with Autism or those with developmental disabilities. Criminal Justice majors prepare for challenging careers in public sector law enforcement, corrections, court-related employment, private sector loss prevention, and investigative work. Many UNT alumni are serving in agencies throughout the DFW region and beyond as police chiefs, supervisors and officers; special agents at federal agencies; state law enforcement officers; and supervisory staff at community corrections agencies, among others. The nation’s first and most respected Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Administration and Planning offers a rigorous curriculum that helps students develop valuable skills in disaster planning, interpersonal communication and leadership. Help individuals with disabilities reach their potential. Graduates of Rehabilitation Studies are prepared to address wellness and employment issues of people with physical and mental disabilities as well as those who live with a serious addiction. Social workers make the world a better place by helping people overcome the challenges associated with abuse, poverty, homelessness, addiction, illness, and discrimination. They practice in a variety of areas including healthcare, hospice, substance abuse treatment, child welfare, aging, criminal justice and others. Interested in a career helping people with speech or hearing disorders? A Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology/ Audiology from UNT paves the way. This program is designed for persons wishing to pursue graduate study and offers an avenue for students interested in pursuing careers in health professions, teaching, psychology, medicine, gerontology, among others. A major in speech language pathology/audiology provides the needed skills to assess and treat people with hearing and balance disorders through a curriculum centered around practical experience.
