Alumnus Mark Schectman returns to UNT to help students with radio show

Mark Schectman ('05), who majored in radio, television and film, returned to campus as a fill-in host of North Texas Jukebox, which he helped to start as a student. Schectman, voted Best Local Music Advocate by readers of the Dallas Observer, trained the show's current student DJ, Bennett Morris, to take over as the new host on March 22.

UNT alumnus David McMahon earns awards, has fun as David Chicken

McMahon is a children's music performer who has released three CDs and two DVDs and won three Emmy Awards from the Lone Star Emmy chapter. He also co-owns a graphic design firm, plays in the Elvis-inspired band Graceland Ninjaz and has started a charity in honor of his mother.

UNT alumnus got his Hollywood start working behind the scenes on a feature movie filmed at UNT

Michael "Jocco" Phillips ('92) always loved watching movies as a kid. When the movie Necessary Roughness filmed on campus in 1991, he got the chance to work with the crew and he knew it was just what he wanted to do for his career.

UNT alumna creates art at Dallas public drinking fountain to bring attention to the work of civil rights activists

In 2003, the words "White Only," previously covered by a metal plate, were discovered above the water fountains in the Dallas County Records Building. Controversy erupted over what to do about the markings. A decade later, artist Lauren Woods ('02), who in following family tradition doesn't capitalize her name, has created the multimedia A Dallas Drinking Fountain Project to teach visitors about the significance of segregation.
