UNT alumna creates art at Dallas public drinking fountain to bring attention to the work of civil rights activists

In 2003, the words "White Only," previously covered by a metal plate, were discovered above the water fountains in the Dallas County Records Building. Controversy erupted over what to do about the markings. A decade later, artist Lauren Woods ('02), who in following family tradition doesn't capitalize her name, has created the multimedia A Dallas Drinking Fountain Project to teach visitors about the significance of segregation.

Friends, family and scholars gathered in December at the Lebanese American University in Beirut for a tribute to the late Lebanese poet Jawdat Haydar (’28), who published his first poem as a student at North Texas.

UNT department chair named Outstanding German Educator

For her drive to make learning relevant, challenging and engaging, Carol Anne Costabile-Heming, chair of UNT's Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures and a professor of German, was named 2012 Post-Secondary Outstanding German Educator by the American Association of Teachers of German in November.
