Seniors Chastity Stewart and Nadiyah El-Amin both set personal bests at the Bobcat Classic this weekend.

SAN MARCOS – One week after breaking a meet record, senior Chastity Stewart broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles and classmate Tori Clark broke her own record in the hammer throw Saturday at the Bobcat Classic hosted by Texas State.

The Mean Green came away with 28 top 10 finishes, six second-place marks and three titles at the final meet before starting postseason play May 12-15.

"Great timing for outstanding performances leading up to the conference championships," head coach Carl Sheffield said. "Wrapping up the regular season like this does wonders for the confidence of our teams. We had all around improvements in the distance and sprint events. Our goals will be to get healthy and recovery for the championship portion of our season."

In the 100m hurdles, Stewart ran the fastest time in North Texas history touching in at 13.03 taking down Alysha Adams wind-aided mark of 13.08 set on April 2, 2011. Stewart also set a season-best time of 58.67 in the 400m hurdles finishing in first place.

Clark bested her previous school record mark in the hammer throw at 55.36 meters (181-07 feet) and finished second at the Bobcat Classic.

The women’s 4x100-meter relay team took second as Stewart, senior Mona Landry, senior Nadiyah El-Amin and sophomore Siara Obasuyi touched in at a season-best time of 45.17.

The men’s 4x100m relay team finished third as senior Kedron Sowells, junior Collin Heard, junior Dominique Drayden and freshman Justin Joe had a time of 40.78 coming one-millisecond off a season-best mark (40.77).

Martin finished second in the triple jump at 12.38 meters (40-7.50 feet) and sophomore Chelsea Classo was fourth at 11.80 meters (38-8.75 feet).

El-Amin ran a personal best time of 23.93 in the 200-meter dash placing second among collegiate finishers.

In the women’s 1500-meter run, the Mean Green had five runners in the top-six with senior Susie Kemper leading the way in second at 4:34.73. Senior Magdalena Escobar set a personal best time of 4:37.22 coming in third in the 1500m. Sophomore Susannah Lynch was fourth at 4:38.84, classmate Christina Moralez came in fifth (4:38.93) and senior Kylee Kittrell finished sixth with a time of 4:44.94.

In the men’s 1500m run, four North Texas runners finished in the top 10 as sophomore Zach Kirkland led the way with a personal best time of 3:53.40 and classmate Mike Lowe also set a personal best time of 3:53.50.

Senior Troy Taylor finished fifth and was the second collegiate finisher in the 800-meter run at 1:50.39. Taylor's time was the fourth fastest in school history and classmate Bryce McAndrew was the third collegiate finisher at 1:51.01 earning a personal best time in every race this spring. 

Junior James Coleman took home first place in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 9:08.49. Escobar finished third in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at 11:25.90.

The North Texas track and field team will get a week off before traveling to compete at the Conference USA Championships on May 12-15 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
