VB Moves Into First Place With Win Over ULM

Box Score

DENTON, Texas - The North Texas volleyball team served ULM off the floor in a three-set sweep of the Warhawks on Sunday afternoon (25-19, 25-11, 25-11).

The Mean Green (11-8, 3-1 Sun Belt West) held the Warhawks (0-13, 0-4 Sun Belt West) to .098 hitting, and claimed sole possession of the Sun Belt West Division lead thanks to a Louisiana-Lafayette loss at Denver. NT has now held eight opponents this year under .100 hitting, including both of its last two.

"ULM really gave us a good match today. It took us a little while to adjust to their style of play, but we got better as the match went on," said North Texas head coach Ken Murczek. "I felt like Brittani Youman has put two matches together that she can really be proud of, and our middles were great today."

Setter Kayla Saey posted her sixth double-double of the year with 40 assists and 10 digs against the Warhawks. The junior moved into fourth place on the program's career assists charts on Sunday, and now has exactly 2,000 career assists.

The outside hitting combo of Amy Huddleston and Youman were Saey's biggest recipients on the day. The duo posted 13 and 11 kills respectively and paced an offense that pounded ULM with .304 hitting.

Melanie Boykins was nearly unstoppable in the middle, racking up eight kills on .533 hitting. A stat sheet filler, Boykins piled up four digs, an assist, a block and an ace as well.

Following the match, NT hosted around 100 kids for a free youth clinic. The Mean Green will be hosting a free youth clinic following every Sunday home match.

"The atmosphere in this place was awesome today. Our DJ keep this place rocking, and we really want to thank all the kids for coming out to the clinic,"Murczek said.
