DENTON - North Texas junior Amy Henard was one of 12 student-athletes to earn a spot on the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday.

The award comes as Henard, a biology major and chemistry minor, maintains a 3.835 GPA. This is the second consecutive year that Henard has earned a spot on the exclusive list.

But the captain’s talent isn’t confined to the classroom. In fact, she has been a key reason why the Mean Green finished third in league play. North Texas is hitting .239 with Henard running the show as setter, the second-best single season mark in team history. She finished the regular season in fifth place in the conference for assists, averaging 9.42 per set.

This season, the Weatherford, Texas, native became just the fifth person in team history to register 3,000 career assists, and she added a conference setter of the week award to her resume just three days ago after tallying 85 assists in seven sets of play last week.

Henard will put her skill to the test this weekend, as the captain leads the Mean Green into the conference championships in San Antonio. North Texas’s first win-or-go-home scenario will be against a fifth-seedsd Florida Atlantic team, with first serve set for 7 p.m.

To be eligible for the C-USA All-Academic Team, nominees must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, at least a sophomore class standing, and be a starter or key reserve member of a league team.
