DENTON, Texas – The North Texas volleyball team has a chance to make history tonight in its non-conference home finale when Texas Tech comes to town. At 9-5 on the year, the Mean Green can tie the 2003 squad for the most non-conference wins in the modern era with a victory over the Red Raiders.

The Red Raiders (12-1) are off to their best start since 2000 and are riding the program’s longest win streak – 12 straight victories – since 1996. In fact, each of Texas Tech’s last seven matches have ended in a sweep, which is something they haven’t done since 1998.

North Texas is coming off a nice weekend of their own, taking second in  their own Mean Green Volleyball Classic. . NT trailed 4-0 and 7-1 to open the first and second sets against Kennesaw State, and even found itself down 23-17 in the second frame before Courtney Windham and Co., completed the 29-27 comeback and the 3-0 sweep of the Owls. NT also knocked off Jackson State, but fell to tourney champ Texas State.

Windham started off strong and only got better with every match. In a trio of three setters the Baylor transfer earned an all-tournament nod with matches of 12, 14 and a career-high 19 kills for an average of 5.0 kills per set. An accurate attacker, Windham hit .372 for the weekend, including a .409 outing against Texas State in which she landed 6.3 kills per set.

Shelley Morton made her return from injury and dominated at the MGVC. The senior, who broke her left pinky in preseason camp, tallied 12 kills on the weekend and kept opponents on their heels with her devastating jump serve that landed a pair of aces.
