Henard, Milam Earn First C-USA Weekly Awards of 2015

Nov. 16, 2015

DENTON - Following an unbeaten weekend that included wins over Middle Tennessee and the league’s second-seeded team in UTSA, North Texas junior Amy Henard and sophomore Holly Milam each earned their first weekly awards of the season, Conference USA announced on Monday.

In what can only be described as one of the best weekends of the year for the Mean Green, Henard took the final C-USA setter of the week honor of the 2015 season, while Milam was named the conference’s defensive player of the week.

Amy Henard - Weatherford, TX - Conference USA Setter of the Week

Henard guided a North Texas offense that hit an efficient .307 on the weekend. The setter averaged 12.14 assists per set in the team’s two wins, the result of a balanced offensive effort from the team as a whole.

Against Middle Tennessee, Henard dished the ball to seven different players as four athletes finished with at least ten kills. In Saturday’s three-set win over UTSA, nine players registered at least one kill due to Henard’s distribution. In addition to her 85 assists in seven sets, the junior added 18 digs, six blocks, two kills and an ace. Her 11 digs versus the Blue Raiders was good for her 13th double-double of the year.

Monday’s C-USA award is the first of the season for the junior and the third of Henard’s career.

Holly Milam - Burleson, TX - Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week
Milam had perhaps the best all-around weekend of her two year career in the weekend’s two wins. Milam put together back-to-back eight block performances in those matches, leading a defense that held Middle Tennessee and UTSA to .143 and .092 hitting, respectively. The eight block assists that Milam had in Friday’s match set a venue record at the North Texas Volleyball Center.

In addition to her 16 total blocks in only seven sets playe (2.29 blocks per set), Milam added 12 digs and averaged 2.29 points per sets, continuing a string of do-it-all performances for North Texas this season. As the team’s second-highest kill earner and leading blocker, Milam will look to add to her four double-doubles on the year at the conference championships in San Antonio.

Monday’s honor is the first C-USA weekly award of Milam’s career.
