Mean Green Receives No. 14 Final Ranking

DENTON, Texas (3/17/09) - The North Texas swimming & diving team received a No. 14 final ranking in the CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major poll released on Tuesday.

The Mean Green held a No. 11 ranking in the last poll heading into the Sun Belt Championships. Before that, North Texas garnered a No. 10 ranking which was the highest ever in the program's history. NT was selected No. 14 to begin the season.

The CollegeSwimming.com rankings are based on the best dual meet lineup for each team as decided by participating schools. Rankings are released four times throughout the season November (Pre-Invite), December (Post-Invite), February (Pre-Conference), and March (Post-Conference).

During the 2008-09 season, third-year head coach Joe Dykstra continued to build North Texas into an up-and-coming program. The Mean Green finished third at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, marking its highest conference finish and point total in school history. This wrapped up a season in which the Mean Green set school records in 14 of 19 swimming events and tallied another NCAA 'B' Consideration Cut. North Texas picked up all-conference performances in four events and had two swimmers and one diver awarded Sun Belt Performers of the Week. The squad also finished second at the Husker Invitational ahead of two Big 12 schools (Nebraska, Iowa State) and one Mountain West team (Colorado State).
