Scheck Earns Conference USA All-Academic Honors

IRVING, Texas -- On the morning of the third day of the Conference USA Championships, junior Samantha Scheck was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team. She joins 12 other swimmers and divers on the 2016 Conference USA All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for placement on the team, student-athletes must have achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and serve as a key competitor of their respective teams. This year's 13-member team includes the most selections in Conference USA history, as the team typically consists of six members.

Scheck has earned a 3.94 GPA in kinesiology with an allied health pre-professional track. As a freshman and sophomore, she was awarded the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal with a GPA of 3.75 or better. She also helped the Mean Green earn College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America honors for a 12th straight season and a 3.55 team GPA that ranked 15th nationally among the recipient schools.

On the boards, she holds the team's top score in the one-meter and three-meter competition and is the league's seventh-best performer on the one-meter and ninth-best performer on the three-meter. She recorded season-best scores in the dual meet against TCU, placing second on the one-meter with a career-best score of 263.92 and taking third on the three-meter with a season-best score of 254.10

She also swept the diving events against SMU with first-place finishes in the one-meter (235.72) and three-meter (237.22) competitions, earning diver of the week honors, her first career Conference USA Diver of the Week award. It was her second and third first-place finish of the season, having won first-place overall on the three-mater in the double-dual meet against Incarnate Word and Liberty (247.65).
