Rice, Houston Dual Meet Notes 
DENTON — The North Texas swimming and diving team wraps up a busy two-week stretch, traveling to Houston for a pair of dual meets at Rice and Houston this weekend. The Mean Green are seeking its second consecutive season sweep of the Houston-area schools, defeating both in dual-meet action this past season.
Both Rice and Houston are familiar foes for North Texas. It’s the first of four meets where North Texas will battle Rice, with both teams slated to compete in the University of Houston Invitational, the Incarnate Word Invitational and the Conference USA Championships.
It’s also the second of four meetings between North Texas and Houston. North Texas edged Houston for second-place, behind first-place SMU, at the North Texas Relays earlier this season. The two teams will also compete at the University of Houston Invitational and the Incarnate Word Invitational.
North Texas enters the weekend with a 1-2 record in dual meets, coming off a 180-110 loss at nationally-ranked Texas A&M this past weekend.
Seven different swimmers and divers set season-best marks in eight different events for the Mean Green against Texas A&M, including sophomore Claudia Kitching in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.96) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.62). Entering the weekend, Kitching holds the top time in the 200 breaststroke and second-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke among Conference USA swimmers.
Other swimmers among the league’s best include senior Bianca Bocsa with the second-fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle and third-fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke and sophomore Isabelle Morris with the third-fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle.
On the boards, junior Samantha Scheck holds the fourth-highest score on the one-meter and the fifth-highest score on the three-meter.
Both Rice and Houston competed at the Rice Invitational this past weekend, where Arkansas took first place, followed by Rice in second and Houston in third. Rice, ranked No. 9 in College Swimming’s mid-major team rankings and No. 46 in its Division I team rankings, holds a 2-1 record in dual meets, while Houston hosts SMU for its first dual meet of the season on Friday night.
Friday’s meet against Rice from the Rice Competition Pool begins at 4 p.m., while Saturday’s meet against Houston from the CWC Natatorium begins at 11 a.m.
