Mean Green Surge In Final Round, Finish 2nd

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - The final round proved to be just what the North Texas men's golf team needed as they fired the lowest score of the day to charge up the leaderboard and nearly capture the Gopher Invitational.

The Mean Green finished second, just three strokes behind Arkansas who hung onto win the tournament with a score of 880 edging out the 883 put up by North Texas.

Powered by a 72 from true freshman Juan Munoz, the Mean Green climbed past SMU, Iowa, Charlotte, and Notre Dame with a final round of 293.

North Texas was the only school to have all five golfers to finish in the top-25 of the tournament.

Munoz had three birdies on his final five holes to close with an even-par score of 72. He finished in a tie for 14th place overall at 222. Rodolfo Cazuabon had the best finish of the tournament for North Texas despite a final round of 77. Cazaubon posted a 4-over 220 for the tourney to finish in 9th place.

Josh Jones, despite a double-bogey on the final hole, turned in a round of 2-over par 74 to finish in 18th place. Jones had two birdies in his final round and a 223 for the tournament.

Carlos Ortiz bounced back from a tough opening day with a 1-over par 73 in his final round. Ortiz had two birdies in his third round as he finished with a 224, tied with teammate Curtis Donahoe.

Donahoe shot a final round of 2-over par with three birdies on the day. Donahoe and Ortiz finished tied for 22nd place.

North Texas is back in action in two weeks when they play in the prestigious Golfweek Conference Challenge September 25-27.
