Warhawks Top Mean Green Men 82-75

DENTON, Texas - The North Texas men's basketball fell to Louisiana-Monroe 82-75 in a back-and-forth thriller at the Super Pit on Saturday night.

ULM (7-22, 2-13) matched everything that the Mean Green (17-9, 6-7) had to throw at them and pulled away from North Texas in the final minutes to secure its first win against the Mean Green since Feb. 10, 2007.

With less than two minutes remaining, North Texas pulled within two of the Warhawks on two made Tristan Thompson free throws, but then allowed ULM to get two offensive rebounds and saw Fabio Riberio lay one in to extend to lead to 71-67.

From there, ULM scored the next five points and put away the Mean Green.

Tristan Thompson led the Mean Green in scoring with 24 points.  The senior also finished with seven rebounds and has now scored 20 or more points in 10 contests.

Senior George Odufuwa notched his 30th career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Tommie Sykes tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds for ULM as Fred Borwn led the Warhawks in scoring with 24.

Sophomore Jacob Holmen hauled in nine rebounds on the night, eight of those in the first half.

The Mean Green will take the court again on Thursday, Feb. 24, when the team heads to Arkansas State to face-off with the Red Wolves.  Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
