STILLWATER, OK – Jordan Williams and Oklahoma State wing-man Le’Bryan Nash have shared a friendship since they were little kids growing up in Dallas, but on Wednesday their life-long on-court rivalry will take center stage at historic Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Fox Sports Networks (FS Oklahoma and FS Southwest) will carry the first and final meeting between Williams and Nash as college players. On top of growing up together in the Dallas AAU circuit, Williams, a Kimball High School grad, famously faced Nash and rival Lincoln High School three times during their senior seasons. Williams and Kimball emerged victorious on two of those three occasions – including the UIL State Tournament semifinals.
In fact, the duo was named co-district MVPs after they both had standout seasons that saw them listed among the state’s top 10 players.
“I talk with Le’Bryan all the time, and he’s always been a great friend,” Williams said. “But on the court, I would definitely call what we have a rivalry. I’m going to give him everything I’ve got, and I know he’s going to do the same thing. I’m really looking forward to matching up with him.”
Heading into their senior campaigns, Williams and Nash are both the key cogs to their respective teams. Williams leads North Texas in scoring (13.8 PPG), assists (3.33 APG), steals (1.83 SPG) and free throw percentage (87.5). After spending a couple of seasons in the shadow of NBA Draft pick Tony Mitchell, Williams is the unquestioned leader of the Mean Green with 1,128 career points.
All-American Marcus Smart has moved onto the NBA as well, which has allowed Nash to flourish for the Cowboys. He leads OSU with 18.3 points per game this year, and is hauling in 6.7 rebounds. Nash ranks second nationally with 44 free throw makes this year. He has started 61 straight games for OSU – 19th longest streak in college basketball – and his 1,417 career points are just 124 shy of the top 10 in OSU history.
